Veronica Bigi (MYP Italian Teacher)

I was born and raised in Pietrasanta, a small medieval town in Tuscany, on the west cost of Italy.

In my free time, I love reading, running and hiking. Furthermore, I used to play volleyball at agonistic level. This experience gave me team-working skills, sense of duty and responsibility.

After my Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages & Literature at Pisa University, I decided to go to Dublin, in order to improve my English communication skills, to discover a new country and to obtain the IELTS certificate. Then, I was lucky enough to spent two months in Germany, where I start learning German.

In October 2015, my partner and I moved to Villach for a new life experience: both of us love travelling and getting to know new people and cultures. I decided to apply for my M. Ed. in European and Extra-European Languages and Literatures, with a focus on teaching abilities, at Udine University. Last year, I went to Melbourne, where I worked as intern in a cultural enterprise involved in building cultural harmony, intercultural awareness and social cohesion in Australian schools and abroad. Moreover, in September 2016 I spent three months in Moscow (Russia) for studying.

Since I am back in Austria, I have been working on my Master’s Thesis. I am analysing which are the motivations of studying Italian as Foreign Language here in Carinthia.

I have always found very important and stimulating knowing different languages and cultures. This fact has broadened my horizons and my interests as well. In particular, I have always had a strong passion for teaching, and in these years, I learnt innovative and creative teaching methods, which I feel nearer to my educational philosophy and conception of intercultural awareness.

Because of my interest in intercultural environment, where languages and cultures are respected and nurtured, I am really looking forward to starting this new experience at ISC!
