James Brightman (Director)

A "Hoosier" by birth, I originally come from Indianapolis, Indiana, but these days, I consider myself a global citizen.  At the end of my undergraduate studies in English at Indiana University where I earned my B.A., I had the opportunity to study abroad in London and came down with a case of wanderlust I have yet to overcome.  After writing as an editor for three years in a publishing company, I discovered that teaching is my vocation, and I have taught every age group from kindergarten to university in my international adventures as an educator in the U.S., Germany, Japan, and South Korea.  A lifelong learner myself, I have earned my M.Ed. from the University of Notre Dame and my M.A. in History from La Salle University with distinction over the course of my teaching career.  From 2009 to 2013, I provided leadership as Secondary Principal to Strothoff International School, a new school in Frankfurt, Germany that started with only 90 students in 2009 and is now an authorized IB World School with over 300 students and growing.  Since 2013, my beautiful wife, Elizabeth, our two adorable sons, Johan and Aidan, our daughter, Skylar, and I have been honored to be a part of the ISC community and to work with great students, parents, teachers, and friends to develop an international school of excellence here in Carinthia.
