Angelika Sattlegger (Catholic Religious Education)

And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.

This quote by Meister Eckhart rushed into my mind when I was asked to take over the lessons for Religious Education at the International School Carinthia – a challenge which I was very pleased to accept since it gives me the chance to combine the two very different fields I had been working in before.

Following secondary education, I studied English and Spanish, specializing on Interpretation, at the University of Innsbruck. At that time, travelling abroad had become one of my favorite hobbies and over the years I have been to many different countries with my husband Martin and later with our two children, so I had the chance to meet many different people and become acquainted with a variety of cultures and religions.

After graduating from university, I started working in the export department, first for a major company in Hallein near Salzburg and later, when my family moved to Carinthia, for a French company in Villach. When our children Elisabeth and Martin – young adults by now – grew older, priorities began to change in my life and about 10 years ago I decided to continue my studies, this time with the aim of becoming a teacher for Religious Education. I find it fascinating to accompany young people on part of their journey through life.

Above all, I think that teaching Religion means to convey a certain knowledge to children - a knowledge about the stories of the Old and the New Testament, the history of the Church, the theology of the Christian religion and the idea of God in other religions. Furthermore, I consider it my task to help my pupils learn how to work together, help each other and get along with each other, to enable them to form their own opinion about questions concerning their lives and their faith and to guide them as they form a strong and self-confident character growing up in the tradition of our Christian faith.

Who am I? Why do I live? Where can I find God? How should I behave? Why do I believe, and what do I believe in?

It is my aim to make my pupils aware of these essential questions of human life and to help them find their individual paths.
