Andrew Thorn (PYP 3b)

I grew up in the south west of the United Kingdom, and studied engineering before moving into a career programing computers. Always having had an interest in teaching an opportunity arose that found me working for an outdoor education company, taking IT beyond the walls of the computer room.
I immigrated to New Zealand when I was 30 where I did my teacher training and initial practice. Since then I’ve taught in IB PYP schools in Indonesia, Japan and lastly in Erbil the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

I believe in linking the learning in the classroom to real life situations, so that it helps make sense of the world beyond the walls of the classroom, and encourage students to take responsibility for themselves and their learning.
To learn we must take risks and we will make mistakes, which is why I love the words of Robert Kiyosaki, “Don’t waste a good mistake, learn from it.”

I am excited by the opportunity to become a member of ISC and help in the journey of the school and its students.

Meeting Time: Wednesday, 9:20-10:00 a.m. Please check availability via e-mail.
